MAIN INGREDIENTS

Berries – 2 cups of Frozen mixed berries OR Fresh berries

Chia seeds – 4 tbsp of Black chia seeds OR white Chia

Sweetener – 2 tbsp of Maple syrup OR any liquid sweetener of choice e.g. Honey, coconut syrup. Adjust sweetener according to your taste.

Lemon Juice – 2 tbsp of Fresh Lemon juice.

INSTRUCTIONS

HERE ARE MY STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS WITH PHOTOS TO SHOW YOU EACH STEP

STEP 1 : Mixed Berries puree

Place frozen berries in a pan with 1/4 cup water melt over a low heat on the stove top, stirring and breaking them up gently so they turn into a slightly chunky puree.

STEP 2 :

While the berries are softening add in the chia seeds, lemon juice and 2 to 3 tbsp of Maple syrup / liquid sweetener and stir to combine. Taste test and add extra maple syrup liquid sweetener if desired.

STEP 3 :

Remove from heat and allow to cool in the saucepan for 10 minutes or so. Stir once or twice to make sure the chia seeds are evenly incorporated.

STEP 4 :

Transfer to a clean, sterile jar and refrigerate until cooled and set; it will thicken even more as it cools. This should keep for two weeks or even a little longer.

STEP 4 : Serving

Spread 2 tbsp of Chia jam on the bread slice and enjoy your delicious breakfast without guilt.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Fresh berries can also be used to make this jam. Cooking time of fresh berries will be increased when compared to frozen berries.
  • Type of Berries – You can use any variety of berries for this recipe (like strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, raspberry)
  • Texture of Puree – I love my jam with chunky berries. If you like smooth texture then cook the jam well and mash it with hand blender and strain out all the pulp using muslin cloth or strainer.
  • Resting time – Once cooking is completed, make sure you remove the jam from heat and rest for 10 mins. Stir once or twice to make sure the chia seeds are evenly incorporated.
  • Storing – Transfer to a clean, sterile jar and refrigerate until cooled and set; it will thicken even more as it cools. This should keep for two weeks or even a little longer.
