Air Fried Bang Bang Broccoli Wings

Crispy and crunchy on the outside, yet soft on the inside. These air fryer broccoli wings are a perfect snack or appetizer. It’s ready in 20 mins or less. Served with a delicious creamy bang bang sauce.

MAIN INGREDIENTS

Broccoli – 1 Medium Head of Broccoli, cut into florets (rinsed and drained)

Flour – 3/4 cup All purpose flour / Plain flour, 1/2 cup Cornstarch

Milk – 3/4 cup Milk (2% or whole milk), use plant based milk for vegan

Sauce and Syrup- 2 teaspoon Chili sauce or Hot sauce, 2 tablespoon Sambal Oelek Ground fresh chili paste (Thai Sweet Chili sauce), 1 to 2 teaspoon Honey or Maple syrup

Mayonnaise – 1/4 cup Full fat Mayo or plant based mayo

Bread crumbs – 2 cups of Panko bread crumbs or regular bread crumbs

Air Fryer Model – Instant Vortex plus 10 QT air fryer oven

HERE ARE MY STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS WITH PHOTOS

STEP 1 : Preparation

  • One medium head Broccoli, cut into bite size florets. Rinse and drained.
  • Instant Buttermilk – Take 3/4 cup of milk in a cup, add 1 teaspoon of vinegar and give a good mix. Let it rest for 3 to 5 mins.

STEP 2 :

  • In a separate bowl add flour, cornstarch, salt, chili sauce (or hot sauce), and prepared butter milk and whisk together with no lumps.
  • Add broccoli florets to the batter and mix well. Make use all the florets are coated evenly in batter.

STEP 3 : Breading

  • Take Panko bread crumbs in a separate bowl or plate.
  • Toss each battered florets well in panko. Repeat this process for remaining florets and keep aside in a plate.

STEP 4 : Instant Vortex Plus 10 QT Air fryer Method

  • Select Air fryer mode and set temperature to 375*F and time for 10 mins.
  • Grease the tray with cooking spray oil.
  • Place panko coated florets in the tray with 1/2 inch space between each. Do not over crowd (air fry in batches). Apply cooking spray on top of the florets.

STEP 5 :

  • Once preheat completed and when air fryer indicates “ADD FOOD”, open the lid and place dripping tray at the bottom of the air fryer and insert food tray in the middle rack of the preheated air fryer.
  • Close the lid and air fry for 375*F for 10 mins, flip halfway through (if you need them extra crispy, air fry for additional 2 mins at 400*F).
  • Once cooking is completed, open the lid and take out broccoli wings and keep aside.
  • Repeat this process for remaining florets.

STEP 6 : Bang Bang Sauce

  • Meanwhile we can prepare bang bang sauce.
  • In a bowl, take 1/4 cup of Mayo, 2 tablespoon of “Sambal Oelek” ground fresh chili paste (store bought), 1 to 2 teaspoon of Honey or maple syrup. Mix well until combined.
  • Your Bang bang sauce is ready. Store the leftover in an airtight container and refrigerator for minimum of 1 to 2 weeks.

STEP 7 : Serving

Place your broccoli wings in a plate and drizzle some 2 to 3 tbsp of bang bang sauce and garnish with chopped spring onions and serve warm.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Use the air fryer setting and place food tray in the middle rack of preheated air fryer. Cook time will vary on thickness of the florets.

Different air fryer brands may cook at different rates, so be sure to keep an eye on food while cooking.

Vegan: You can use plant based milk in the place of whole milk, vegan mayo for making bang bang sauce and maple syrup for honey.

Substitute: In the place of vinegar you can replace with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice.

For chili sauce use hot sauce.

Use regular bread crumbs for Panko bread crumbs.

To Store: They taste best when served hot and fresh, but you can store them in airtight container in the refrigerator.

To Reheat: Put them back in the air fryer and cook at 370*F for 4 to 5 mins, flip or shake halfway through.
