Sticky Sesame Cauliflower in Air Fryer

These Sesame Cauliflower bites are crispy, sweet, spicy and sticky. It tastes great when served as an appetizer or snack.

It can also be served as a side dish with fried rice and noodles.

MAIN INGREDIENTS

Cauliflower – 1 medium head Cauliflower florets 

Sauce – Dark soy sauce, Rice Vinegar, Sriracha (or chili sauce), Ketchup

Spices – Cayenne pepper (or chili powder), Garlic powder

Sweetener – Maple syrup (or honey)

Flour – All-Purpose flour and Cornstarch

Garlic – 5 cloves Minced Garlic 

HERE ARE MY STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS WITH PHOTOS

STEP 1 :

  • In a bowl add all-purpose flour, cornstarch, cayenne pepper, salt, garlic powder and give a good mix.
  • Gradually add water and keep stirring until you reach batter consistency.

STEP 2 :

Add all the cauliflower florets to the batter, mix well and make sure all the pieces are coated evenly.

STEP 3 : Air Fried Cauliflower bites

  • Grease your air fryer tray with cooking spray.
  • Place cauliflower florets in a single row, so that all the florets has a little bit of space around each pieces. Apply cooking spray again. You can always bake or shallow fry the florets as well.

STEP 4 :

  • Cook in preheated air fryer at 375*F for 12 mins, shaking (or flipping) half way through, then continuing to cook.
  • Remove after cauliflower is cooked and repeat this process for remaining florets.

STEP 5 : Sticky sauce

  • In a pan add oil, chopped garlic sauce for few seconds.
  • Turn the heat to medium to low, add soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, sriracha, ketchup and mix well for 1 to 2 mins.
  • Pour Corn starch slurry, stir and cook until sauce is thick.

STEP 6 : Final Preparation

Switch off the heat and add the air fried cauliflower florets. Give a good mix.

STEP 7 : Serving

Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions. Serve it with fried rice or noodles.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Do not over crowd the air fryer basket: Place cauliflower florets in a single layer, and leave a little space around for the air to circulate, which helps in crisping the edges. OVER CROWDING will NOT make a crispy florets.

Substitute – I used maple syrup, replace with honey or any sweetener of your choice.

And for Sriracha use red chili sauce.

Storage – You can refrigerate the leftovers in an air tight container for 2 to 3 days.
